[Sca-cooks] Archives/recommended knives/basic tools

So I'm looking to buy a good set of knives.

On the way back from Summers End (Buffalo NY) we decided to stop at
grove city and visit the retail outlets there.

We looked at Wusthof knives and i found that the 10 inch wide cooks
knife (classic series) actually allowed my meaty hands to use it
without crunching my  knuckles.... woo hoo...

My sweety really liked the balance and feel of the knives and despite
my suggesting we wait, insisted on getting a basic set.  I'm a bit
more conservative when investing in something i expect to last a
lifetime... and therefore held off getting the one that actually fits
me.

So i went to look at the cooks archive for recomendations and found
that we have the last few months... or the huge archive as choices...

I thought the other indexes might be stored as files at the site, so
I've tried sending "index sca-cooks" to
majordomo at ansteorra.org.... but have not received replies...  are they
available in smaller chunks?

I have also not been able to find a good site compairing/rating
different knives....

So given that i've made a good faith effort at finding past
discussions, and being impatient while the 134 meg file
downloads... i'll pose my question.
