Stefan asked:
>So, New England isn't a good place for a vacation?
Sure, it's a wonderful place, but I LIVE here. Yes, it's small (5
states in 5 hours), but it's got something for everyone. Almost.
New York is close enough to drive to, but far enough to stay
overnight. A "vacation" lasts more than 3 days, with the promise of new
adventures in food. A NE "getaway" visits old familiar places, usually
for the weekend.
Yes, Olwen's right, whenever you do get up this way be -sure- to see
the Glass Flowers at the Peabody Museum.
And.....

   1. Thin sliced beef with pan juices on a hard caraway roll -
Kümmelweck. From NW NY, but found about everywhere.
   2. A combo plate native to the Rochester area. Macaroni salad,
fried potatoes, coleslaw, hot dogs, baked beans, chili (meat and tomato
sauce), cheese and bread. One plate, preferably paper, with plastic
utensils.
   3. Marinated, skewered grilled meats, served on a chunk of French
bread. Often found at outdoor gatherings, fund-raiser cookouts, church
group outings, etc. Spreading, but originally from south central NY
(Binghamton area).
   Now I KNOW it's time for a field trip. I'm mouth-bored.
