The rules for "common law" marriage depends upon the state. Some recognize
it. Some don't. In Oklahoma there are several different definitions in
different parts of the legal code that determine marriage status: simple
cohabitation, cohabitation for six months, and declaration (IIRC). Usually,
the courts ignore it unless there has been a declaration of marriage or the
precise question of marital status is critical to the legal issue.
