[Sca-cooks] Paschal Beets

The use of the "paschal beet" is partly as a vegetarian alternative
to lamb. And i assume its color is significant, since Jews were
supposed to smear their door posts with the blood of the lamb to keep
away the plagues that their god would inflict on the Egyptians.

But there is also punning involved - you didn't think that only
Heralds could pun, did you?

There's also the hope that Jews will "beet" their enemies.

A friend of mine also puts long fresh green beans on the plate, to
represent the hope that all human "beans" will be freed from
oppression.
