As I understand it, brown betty and fruit crumbles are different things.
Crumbles are made with a base of stewed fruit and then a topped with a
mixture of rolled oats, brown sugar, and butter.  It can also be made with
flour instead of the oats.  Cinnamon and nutmeg are often added to the
crumble topping.  This is then baked until it is hot and crispy.

I think a brown betty is made with bread crumbs, but I could be wrong.  I
will do a bit of digging and find out.
