Swedes: Brassica napobrassica, in the US, Rutabegas--white until
cooked, they turn yellowy orange when cooked. Not period.

Mangel wurzel: Beta vulgaris, a beet variety fed to cattle.

Turnips are Brassica rapa, same genus, different species. My
understanding is that B. rapa are cattlefeed in Eurpoe, and B.
napobrassica are the people turnip. I *don't know* how accurate the
above statement is, it was reported to me second hand.

That is for Anglo-Saxon--does it hold true for Old Icelandic??
