It's initials made famous by Robert Heinlein-
initially, I believe, in "The Moon Is A Harsh
Mistress", then carried through in several of his
later books, and picked up by SF fandom.

What it means is:

There Ain't No Such Thing As A Free Lunch

and it was triggered by today's internet April Fool's
Day joke, the Free Lunch Website.
