No, yeast isn't yeast.  There are about 350 different species, and an
unbelievable number of strains and variants.

The particular yeast here is Saccharomyces cerevisiae, commonly referred to
as baker's or brewer's yeast.  It's the same yeast which produces ale barm.
Red Star is a commercial variant.
