Yes. Your typical modern champignon usually responds best to just a
wipe with a soft, possibly damp cloth, but it may well be a
combination of tough skins, dirty skins, and the additional
possibility that either a) some toxic mushrooms have toxic skins, and
b) some toxic (but not necessarily fatally poisonous) mushrooms
contain toxins that leech out into boiling water, or, at least, out
of the mushroom better when it is peeled.
