Well, I've heard they often start with the soft stuff, playstation,

xbox, coin operated video games, then after they've fallen prey to
this they often move on to the hard stuff, Doom, Riven, this Everquest...
All the time the victims continue to proclaim that they are not
addicted; that they can quit any time they wish to.
