Before my feast I ran around and did some comparison
shopping. GFS is very cheap for many staples, as is
Sams club. However, sometimes Sams club is cheaper
and sometimes GFS. For meat and vegetables I found it
cheaper to go to locally owned stores and tell them
what I would need ahead of time. When you tell a
butcher that you will need 70lb of beef sirloin they
are happy to give you a price quote that is way lower
than anything the supermarket can offer. For example
I paid $50 for 20 chickens, weighing on average
4.5lb,making the cost average about 23c/lb. I picked
up pork butt for 88c/lb and sirloin (select grade,
not the inspected you get at supermarkets) for $2.19.

The vegetable store gave me great prices on boxes of
stuff and knocked 10% off the whole bill. My
conclusion is don't be afraid to approach small
locally owned businesses when you are planning a feast
they are very eager to deal and can save you lots of
money.
