Got together with friends on Christmas Eve and made a Victorian-themed
dinner. Many of the dishes were from 19th century sources, though
others were modified or just made up.

- roast goose stuffed with apples/prunes/chestnuts, with a fruity
  currant-jelly based sauce
- potatoes a la maitre d'hotel (kinda like armored turnips, but with
  potatoes... and no cheese)
- minted peas
- glazed carrots
- cheese platter
- plum pudding with custard
- macaroons
- roman punch (a rum punch, basically like lemonade with rum, served
  icy-cold... it was *great*)

And yes, Olwen, I even have pictures:

Oh, and I told my co-cook that there was a thread here about goose fat,
and he wanted to know if anyone had posted recipes for turning it into
ointments and salves. He seems fixated on Granny Weatherwax's goose
grease and sage linament, for some reason.

Yours,

Katherine
