And sometimes they leave when they find out about a group because
they think that this group would only make life miserable for them.
That was me about one year ago.  My DH who had been active 10 years
ago convinced me to give this organization a try.  I know more about
SCA politics at several levels than a newbie wants to know and I've seen
some very uncourteous behaviour from people too.  I've met enough
nice people that I'm still here - plus I really want to learn about
how things were done in the Middle Ages.  I was also told that
someone who has published a translation of a period cookbook wasn't
accurate but then given what I knew about the people involved, I
wondered if that weren't politically motivated. (I only know the
person who told me this; the author of the book moved out of this
area a number of years ago.)  So how does a newbie judge for herself?
