Well, the original message just asked what music we listen to when we
cooked. It did not specify whether it was at home cooking any old
thing or just when we cook historical food at events... or anywhere
else.

What i play in the kitchen at an event, as i listed, is mostly
period, and what isn't period is peri-oid - but the events i've done
this at have NOTHING going on in the hall while i'm in the kitchen.
If there were activities in the hall, i wouldn't play any music at
all, so as not to interfere with the other stuff.

In the Kingdom of the West, where i live, most events are outdoor
camping events. The only feasts i can think of the Kingdom having are
at the two Collegia per year. (Twelfth Night, which seems to be a
biggie in other kingdoms, is strictly bring-your-own - we're pretty
informal)

The Principality i live in has two feasts per year, at the Spring and
Fall Investitures.

Other smaller groups, such as Baronies (which are nowhere near as
important in the West as they appear to be elsewhere), Provinces,
Shires, etc., have feasts which are quite often pot-lucks, although
there are several that host actual period feasts. Most of the feasts
are in the winter when we can't camp out in the cold and rain or
accompany an event sponsored by the group.

Anyway, at camping events, several camps host Bardics, and generally
prefer either actual historic music (a really rare thing in my
experience) or music composed or at least lyrics written by the
performer. Some campsites will tolerate anything. I have very low
tolerance at events, however, for filk and 19th and 20th century folk
songs. If i hear the Moose song or The Gypsy Rover one more time, i'm
going to bash the singer's guitar over their head. I actually said
something to the guy who considers himself a "bard" and sings only
19th and 20th c. folk and filk such as the Moose song - i directly
told him NOT to sing the accursed Moose song, and he was apologetic,
but said he just liked spreading happiness. Well, the junk (in my
opinion) he sings doesn't make *me* happy, and he really could learn
some old songs if he made a little effort.

Anahita
not really in a grumpy mood - the sun is shining and the sky is blue
and the temperature is in the high 60s.
