[Sca-cooks] OT (saaarry!) Nice SCA Analysis

Good Morning, all!

We had an interesting experience here in Ostgardr the other day, and I
thought I'd share the aftermath, which, while not entirely on topic,
does have some culinary content and should be of interest to most SCAdians.

What happened was this: most of us have heard the analogy that the SCA
is like high school, and that the jocks and the cheerleaders have an
inordinate level of control over how the game is played. Whether or not
you buy the theory, a lot of people seem to hold the opinion, and in
such an atmosphere, it was only a matter of time before we had our first
    verbal Littleton/Columbine-style attack.

[Apologies in advance for any who feel I'm extreme in mentioning that
name in this context, but I speak as an ex-oppressed nerd and the parent
of an oppressed nerd, and while I don't believe in violence as a
solution to most problems, least of all ones like this, I also was not
at all surprised by the incident, and think that the community was
partially at fault, and would be happy to discuss my reasons further
off-list.]

Anyway, the Real Reason (tm) I'm posting this is because a former member
of our little fraternity had some difficulty in adjusting, feeling
accepted, etc., and no doubt the individual people involved had some
faults all around. However, the guy saw fit to, um, portray the SCA,
warts and nothing else, on a web-based media site. Lots of stuff about
smelly men in dresses and 300-lb women, but at least even he could lose
his virginity in such an environment, etc., etc., and mostly rather
insulting.

However, he also links to the following site, one which I feel is a lot
more even-handed and fair about us, still a bit on the satirical side
but both reasonable and funny. So for those who have not yet encountered
"The SCAtanic Verses", they can be found here:

Thanks to Baron Tibor for hosting this more reasonable view...
