Greetings

  Been there, done that.  Only left it for 30-40 min, but on the
highest heat setting.  Had to buy a new teakettle :-(
 It's what ever type of plastic the handle is made from that caused the
fumes.
  Open all the windows and air the house out as well as possible; and
air yourself out, too - go for a walk, or sit outside or really near a
window for a while.  Take care.
