<<I'm interested in taking period recipes and figuring them out (doing
redactions for them...that's the correct term, right?). Just wondering if
you all have any tips that make figuring out the recipes easier? Not just
the language, but how many of X, how long to cook it, etc. What should I
keep in mind when I do things? >>

IThe very best advice I can offer is to write everything down, be willing to
do several test runs, and remember that you have an excellent source here on
the list if you have any questions. The writing down is very important,
there are still a few recipes that worked perfectly the first time, and I
never wrote anything down. Hopefully the "that's about right" cooking style
I learned from my mother and grandmother will help me get the recipe right
the next time I try it.
