[Sca-cooks] Loud Voices

Well, you see, my mom *was* a sergeant... OK, long before I was born,
but still.

From her, I learned what I call the Teacher voice. (I taught
preschool.) A lot of it is the assumption that one will be listened to!
Speak firmly, not particularly loudly (unless I am calling across an
entire playground on the banks of a windy river... I'm a trained singer,
I can get volume, too...)

The lower voice also helps project, especially through a crowd of women
and children...

There is also the "I'm staying in control, and it's taking everything I
have" voice... that is more to get the attention of an adult without
alarming the children, and usually means someone has been hurt. That one
cuts right through any room... but I don't think anyone does it quite on
purpose. I've only heard it a few times, but it gets instant attention.
