Oh!
I've got people working with me who are stationed in Chico. It's in
Northern California, a bit south and east of Redding and 60 miles north of
Beale Air Force Base (er... Sack-a-tomatoes, no, no! Sacramento). They
also grow wonderful almonds there, the type you can open with your thumbs
instead of a nut cracker.

I'll have to see if I can bribe someone into sending me up some on their
next run to Portland!

Over at my house.....<g>
While at my favorite local food store today (an
organic/bulk/exotic/health food place), I found a nice bottle of
elderberry wine, made by a company in CA (maire scuttles into the next
room to retrieve the bottle)....ah, here we go...The winery is called
"HoneyRun Winery," and they're located in Chico, CA (wherever in the
state that is)....and they have a website:
www.honeyrun.com, where you can order all kinds of things.
(maire checks out the website). Oh, darnit...looks like they can only
ship to some states. Those of us in NY, NJ, NC, CT, MI, FL, OH, VA, or
MT are s.o.l. unless you can find it in a store (although they do list
the stores they're selling in).
It's a beautiful deep, garnet red, and looks like it might actually be
more of an elderberry melomel than straight elderberry wine (label says
it's 16% elderberry wine and 84% honey wine [legalese for mead???]).
Oh, yuppers on the mead (note on the back of the bottle).
I bought it for my birthday, which is coming up, so I'll let you know
how it tastes after I open it.....Think I'll need a nice, juicy steak to
go with it......
