Angustias requested the following from THE FANTASY COOKBOOK by Rita and Tim
Hildebrandt, The Bobbs-Merrill Company, Inc. Indianapolis/New York, c. 1983.
Tim and his brother are well-known fantasy artists; Rita gets into the act
with a fantasy backstory and tasty recipes.
MERMAID'S MUNCHIES
2 squares unsweetened chocolate, melted
1/2 cup honey
2 cups dessicated coconut
1/2 cup walnuts, finely chopped
1 teaspoon cream
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Mix chocolate and honey over low heat until blended.
Mix in other ingredients; if mixture appears crumbly,
add more honey or cream.
Drop by teaspoons onto an ungreased cookie sheet.
Put in oven and turn off heat.
Leave for 15 minutes.
Makes 4 dozen, enough for 3 merpeople.
CURRY BUNS
6 Tablespoons butter
1/2 cup brown or turbinado sugar
1 egg
1/2 teaspoon curry powder or 1/4 teaspoon cumin plus 1/4 teaspoon turmeric
1&1/2 cups flour, 3/4 cup unbleached and 3/4 cup whole wheat
3/4 teaspoon salt
1&1/2 teaspoon baking powder
Filling (recipe follows)
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.
Beat the butter and sugar together. Add the egg and curry powder.
Mix together the flour, salt and baking powder and add them to the butter-egg
mixture.
Spoon into greased and floured muffin tins, filling the cups only 1/4 full,
then adding 1/2 Tablespoon of filling and topping with more batter.
Sprinkle the tops with extra brown sugar.
Bake for 20 minutes
FILLING
1/2 cup unsweetened apple sauce
3 Tablespoons brown or turbinado sugar
Mix together applesauce and sugar.
Makes about 12 buns.
