Scewer is a long thin rod ending n a point sort of like shish ka bob but
thicker than that and shorter, A tang is long rod with a C shaped hook on
the end at 90 degree angel for shaft, used to hold meat or tear it off the
roast or carcass:)
 and yes the term tang also refers to that part of a blade that goes up (and
hopefully) to the top of the hilt, handle, grip etc:)
