Welcome to the list!  There were hot drinks in the middle ages, but
most of the ones I know of are alcoholic -- caudles and possets
and other ancestors of eggnog.  The Islamic cookbooks have some
recipes for flavored syrups which are diluted with hot water, though
they are intended to be medicinal.
