Quoted from jenne at fiedlerfamily.net - 5/24/02, 11:46 PM -0400:
>> Cabbage brings out all manner of apocrypha, why not trot out Al Broccoli.
>> I've got one source that says brussels sprouts are an invention of the 18th
>> Century and another that says they and kohlrabi are referenced in Dodonaeus'
>> Cruydeboek of 1554 (which I haven't been able to check out).

>Is Kohlrabi the one with the thick fleshy bulb and the cabbagey leaves?
>(not fennel, I know what fennel looks like). Because I'm looking at
>Gerard's illustation of 'rape-cole' and thinking, I know what this is, why
>can't I think of what it is?

... not to mention that kohlrabi sounds like it could easily be a different
form of "cole-rape".
