Well their ideas of entertainment tended to be a bit rough; bull and bear
baiting, dog fights, public executions, torture, and the less said about
Henry VIII's matrimonial problems the better.

Regards insults if Shakespeare is a guide there were several common themes
related to one's intelligence or lack there of, ancestry, personal habits,
and parentage; they ranged from truly baroque to the merely scatological.
