No, it's paneer, or sometimes panir, and it is a fresh cheese used in
Indian cooking. Cooks usually make it at home, and use it that day or
the next. Very mild. Curds are drained and pressed very lightly. An
Indian friend has found she can substitute tofu for it without the
family noticing (cut quite a bit out of her prep time, so it became her
busy day cheat) so that should give you an idea of the texture. It is
usually cut in cubes and added to fairly spicy dishes. Saag Paneer, or
spinach with cheese, is the one I've had most often - it is pretty common.
