Make-up is not difficult. Just before ceremony time, get covered with sheets
so your glorious ceremonial garb will not get besmirched. Get a good quality
pancake make-up approximating your regular skin color, in a cake not a
liquid, and rub it on your hands until covered. This may take a while, be
thorough. Take a fingertip and tap each square centimeter of made-up skin
gently; this removes the appearance of streaks. Powder thoroughly with a
matching or an "invisible" powder - baby powder will work. Press the powder
in firmly all over the affected area with a makeup sponge or just your other
hand, since they both need to be done. Dust off with a medium weight makeup
brush [or soft paint brush will work], then dab skin with a damp [not dry,
not dripping] washcloth. Remove the protective sheets from the rest of your
person, do the ceremony. Your skin will be touchable and dry but don't touch
anything too firmly or you may leave bits of color. When finished, remove
the makeup with baby oil or lotion of your choice, soap and water won't quite
do it.

I still think that dye on the skin is the proper "war wound" for a
leathercrafter, corresponding to the Heidelberg Scar or the asbestos
fingertips of the masterchef. It means you don't just talk about your art
form, you get your hands dirty and really do it! Flaunt the dye-fingers and
shame to he who thinks ill of it!
