I don;t think you are imagining things. I said "Chulent" and "kugel" to
myself as I was reading this. I kept looking for the noodle component to it,
so your assesment of "plum pudding" is probably more on target.

As far as the day and a night thing, The only thing I can think of is that
it might be for a holy day when cooking and other work is not allowed so you
would cook it the day before??? I am *trying* to make it fit.  I don't know
why it would be worded like that.

I asked some cooks on my Jewish list if they had ever heard of this
cookbook. We'll see what they say,
