[Sca-cooks] SCA On Emeril

Yeah, I think that's from the "Emeril Cooks Medieval" show, which Gunthar
rated as a C-.

I actually thought it wasn't too bad, other than that ridiculous purple robe
they had him wearing. Trouble was, they lifted Cariadoc's recipe without
attribution or permission, and when Cariadoc was told about it and contacted
them, they completely eliminated the recipe from the website. I'm glad to
see it back and properly attributed- I just hope they have his permission
this time.

They also used Maids of Honor cakes, which are "supposed" to go back to
Henry VIII, but actually apparently are much more modern- at any rate,
there's no documentation for them, just repeated affirmations that they're
period.

The things that the show did well were to avoid the "meat was rotten so they
covered it with spices" routine, but much of their advice came from Medieval
Times, whose entertainment is great, but whose food, by repute, is neither
particularly period nor particularly good.

Over all, I think Emeril did a pretty good job, considering the limitations
he was working under, but the show definitely isn't everything we could have
hoped it might be....

If it walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, it is probably not a
cat.

Never a horse that cain't be rode,
And never a rider who cain't be throwed....
