no drug in the world will let his body make platelets in that time, the ONLY
answer was platelets. NOW.  certain drugs could allow him to receive fewer
platelets... and did.
but you cannot survive a platelet count of 6 for long.

yes, 6.

i also know people who lost almost all of their blood in car accidents, if
the paramedics hadnt pumped a heck of a lot of fluid in them, they wouldnt
make it to the hospital. but that is a temporary solution.  they needed
blood.  period. they got it, they lived.....

hemophiliacs can *often* do well on drugs that stimulate their own
production, but some of them, and sometimes, they need clotting factors. and
they come from blood and blood alone.

maybe in the future they will have artificial blood substitutes that work in
all cases, but until then... ...
SOME people will need blood donations (or blood products) to live

can blood use be reduced? yes, in many cases....
can blood donations and products be dangerous, heck yes!

but it still beats dying, and your odds are still pretty good.
