Apparently your work was toward the goddess side. People are generally 
reluctant to "mess up" nice artwork. Although there have been stories 
related of some children eating soteltie castles and such even when 
told not to. The moral for the latter is to make sure you get your 
pictures taken early.

The suggestion for the first problem is to go ahead and slice the 
soteltie or even remove and eat a slice. Another is to have a serving 
knife and spatula? available. I've seen a lot of cakes and pies at pot 
lucks that don't get eaten or get eaten last because no one wants to be 
the first to cut into that new cake or there are no serving utensils 
easily available.

For your friend you should have cut out the strawberry and presented it 
to her. Then any damage has already been done and *you, the artist* did 
it, so she could feel comfortable in eating it.
