Banquet dels Quatre Barres
March 8th, 2003
Barony of Caer Mear

Food lovers unite, again! The Barony of Caer Mear cordially invites you to a celebration of Catalan cuisine. Join us for a day of food, food, music, food, dancing, food, and congenial company. There will be arts & games in the morning, music & entertainment throughout the day, a banquet from early-afternoon into the evening, dancing & good company into the night.

Banquet: Service will begin promptly at 1pm. Master Thomas Longshanks and his kitchen crew will present a feast in 6 courses, with dishes selected from Catalan cookbooks of the 14th and 15th centuries, including, but not limited to:

Pa, queso i almendras (Bread, fresh cheese and almonds)
Pex frit ab escabeg (Pan-fried fish with sauce escabeche)
Queso i membrillo (Manchego with quince paste)
Mostayla nostrada a butifarra (Sausages with mustard our way)
Mel i higos (Figs preserved in honey)
Salsa blanca a gualines (Hens in white sauce)
Confits de fonoll (Fennel confits)
Sosengua a cabrit ab let de amelles (twice-cooked kid in a cinnamon-almond milk sofrito)
Mel i aros con polvora de duch (Rice with honey and spices)
A table of confits will follow the banquet for your enjoyment throughout the evening.
A fine meal is incomplete without good wine. Bring your favorites, or contact Master Thomas for a list of very good, inexpensive Catalan wines he recommends you bring for various dishes. NOTE: Most dishes INCLUDE nuts or almond milk. Most dishes are NOT vegetarian. Please contact Master Thomas for a complete menu and list of ingredients.

Event specifics: The site is the Group Camp 3 Dining Hall at Pocahontas State Park, Route 655 (Beach Rd) in Chesterfield County, VA. The Hall will be open 10am to 9pm. The Park closes at 10pm. The site is discretely wet, with the display of no original containers. The State Park prohibits open alcoholic beverages outdoors at this site (they aren't kidding, folks!). There can be no open flames in the hall, so all candles must be enclosed in a container.

A&S Activities: Display - Artists and researchers are invited to display their works from 10am to 1:30pm. Competition - In addition to the A&S display, there will be a friendly competition. The best expression of the theme will receive a small token of our appreciation. The theme will be "Books and Roses." Fees:
On-Board: $20.00 ($23.00 for non-members) per person, including children.
Off-Board - because the event is a banquet, there will be NO off-board space

Reservations: Admission to the banquet is limited to the first 66 paid reservations, only. Sorry, no walk-ins - even little ones. Reservations must be paid and in our hands by March 1, 2003. If the event is cancelled, all paid reservations will be cheerfully refunded. Make checks payable to "Barony of Caer Mear - SCA, Inc." Please include the mundane and SCA names, and membership numbers, for all reserved seats.
