This is the information I turned up in looking into alkanet for my egg dye
project:
" Alkanet can be hepatoxic in large quantities, but was FDA approved for
coloring sausage skins in 1999, so it is probably safe on eggs as long as
you're not eating alkanet colored eggs every day for months!"
