Hello List!
Yesterday I had the pleasure of going into a woman's studies class at the local university. Or rather, Lady Phillipa Seton went in, to speak to the class about her life in Windsor, England, during early Elizabethan times.

I described my life on my manor house / farm. I explained to the kids what sort of activities made up one's daily life. I showed pictures of a manor house (explaining the architectural change from H7 to Eliz. time. I showed *our* out-buildings: the dairy, the brewery, the pig shed. etc.

To illustrate my points I bought in various accoutrements from home: A pewter eating plate, a spoon, wooden food prep bowls & spoons. An ink well, feather pens, garb, needle work etc. It was amazing how much of my day-to-day utensils could easily pass for or would have been used in Tudor times!

And now for the obligatory food content:

I made gingerbread to take in and share. They actually liked it!! When I showed them a picture of a banqueting hall, they couldn't believe that people actually went into a separate building to *eat dessert*.

Also, their eyes lit up when I explained that people drank *small beer* much more than or in place of water. They were disappointed that it was low alcohol content........ LOL!

Speaking of which... What is the alcohol content/percentage of regular beer and of small beer and would current day light beer be akin to small beer?

Thanks!
Phillipa
