[Sca-cooks] Marzipan sauce anyone? (was Re: An Evil Thought- Excercise in Intelligence)

Some questions please?
What does "distemper" mean?  All I can think of is a dog's distemper shot.
And, what would you use this sauce for? Cake? ice cream? (ha ha) and how
thick or thin would this sauce be?
