The Four Seasons of the House of Cerruti Translated by Judith Spencer

This lovely book is a facsimile edition and English translation of Tacuinum
Sanitatis in Medicina a 14th century work originally in Latin. This title
translates to Tables of Health in Accordance with Medical Science. The 11th
century sage, Ellbochasm de Baldach, adapted the philosophies of Hippocrates
and Empedocles in his teachings of medical arts and sciences based on medieval
alchemy. This manuscript is based on Ellbochasm’s work but applied to northern
Italy in the late Middle Ages.

The original manuscript is housed in the Austrian National Library in Vienna.
It contains roughly 200 illustrations, each of which is reproduced in full
color in this book. It is a "valuable and moving document of daily life and of
the way people thought -- in a word, of the culture of northern Italy as it
was exactly 600 years ago." For each of the four seasons, climate, foods that
affect health, food preparation and remedies for maladies are discussed.
Nearly every pair of pages contains four beautiful illustrations, most in
color.
