Yes, it's absolutely true - some of the cheap brands do substitute bergamot
for lavender.  And I had friends at brunch last weekend instantly demand the
same information of me - which ones?

I know Republic of Tea uses bergamot - the real thing.

That's the only one I know off the top of my head right now.
