What's different between the original and the American editions? For
example, the second book was, in England, about the "Philosopher's
Stone" a genuine historical Renaissance magical, alchemical,
religious and philosophical concern, not the American "Sorcerer's
Stone". Personally, i think this change is quite significant.

But besides removing Brit slang and replacing it with American slang
(which i think is unnecessary, but which i can tolerate), i have
heard - don't know for certain as i've only read the American
versions of the first 3 books - that the language for the American
editions of those 3 books was additionally "dumbed down". This may
explain why i found them so disappointing.

I read children's books from time to time and enjoy them (even little
kid's picture books). But i couldn't completely see all the fuss over
HP, although i was thrilled to hear that it got children interested
in reading.
