Well, I thought about tomato, but this is a dessert, and the honey makes it
pretty sweet.  I thought fleetingly of catsup which is also sweet, but don't
want to go there either (although I was stabbed to death with a 'bloody'
McDonald's catsup packet on stage in "Sorry, Wrong Number" in 8th grade...)
I'm kindof leaning towards strawberry jam.

You seem to be overlooking the obvious red New
World fruit/vegetable, the ever-poisonous Tomato!
 A little tomato paste would do the trick.
