This seems to be a timely discussion, in fact, at first I thought this
message had come from the cook's list.
When will the government learn that prohibition gets you no where?

This is bound to cause some turmoil on the list so I apologize in
advance.

According to the army ASAP (Alcohol substance abuse program) Georgia
will be raising it's legal limit to 21 for cigarette consumption and
purchase and 25 for alcohol consumption and purchase. This will go into
effect on the 4th of Jan 2004.

No I do not know if they will grandfather this like they did when they
raised the driving age. All that we have been told is that this has been
signed into law but it is being kept quiet to keep the out cry to a minimum.

We have also been told that the date may get pushed back (to 2005) due to
budget restrictions, since a good amount of funding for the state comes from
the sale of these two items. However the base has also been told to be
prepared if the state drinking age jumps suddenly.

I'm putting this information out as a public service announcement.
Hopefully some of you have wiser contacts than I and can help shed some
light on this subject. So far , other than the ASAP, I have not been able
to find any information on this subject.

In service:

Conrad
