Another source not to be overlooked is the local COUNTY AGENT or
AGRICULTURAL EXTENSION SERVICE office - and any Master Gardener 
classes that they offer ( It may be listed in the phone book under
the name of the local Land Grant school - would that be Texas A&M ? )
These people would be knowledgeable about best local growing practices,
and can put you in contact with other local gardeners -
