OK about the sources I am quoting. the actuall source I was using is an
English translation of the Mishnah Brurah, which is a 19th century
commentary on the Shulkhan Arukh a 16th century code of Jewish law by
Rabbi Joseph Caro. However the Mishnah Brurah quotes the Shulkhan Arukh
and then adds commentary to it.

There is no recipie for the meat pie, from context I would imagine it was
some form of meat (probably chicken) wrapped in a simple dough. That is me
speculating, do not take it to be anything more than that.

as for the laws of cooking on Shabbat, the basics are that the food should
be completly cooked when shabbos starts, and left on coals over night. The
fire should be banked to keep someone from tending it. (Which is forbiden
on Shabbat). I will see if I can borrow a copy of the relivant volume of
the Mishnah Brurah, (there is not a full english Shulkhan Arukh, and my
hebrew is not up to the original)
