Those i have seen but not participated in at Goth parties i've 
attended (that's the modern 20th-21st c. kind, not the SCA period 
kind :-) have been VERY firm. Often the maker adds additional gelatin 
to the liquid. Some friends even pour the unjelled stuff into candy 
molds to set up, so they get unusual shapes. They slither down the 
throat better when they're firm and not sticking to the fingers or 
collapsing before reaching the mouth...

Search the 'net and you'll find "recipes" for Jello shots easily enough...
