By my calculations, around December of 1992. If you recall, Nearly Headless
Nick celebrated his 500th deathday at Halloween in book 2, and his cake gave
the year he died as 1492. That puts book 1 in the 1991-92 school year, and
Flamel had about 6 months of elixir left when the Stone was destroyed at end
of term.
