If the meat isn't thoroughly cooked or smoked, it is possible to transmit 
viruses, some bacteria and some parasites in cured meat.  The salami in this 
case is probably salt cured and uncooked.  Hoof and mouth disease is a 
virus.  The odds are that you won't find anything serious in the salami, but 
it is possible.
