Absolutely.

There's a pretty good case with either by itself.

When our daughter was very little, we used to go to a restaurant that 
had, among many other things, pickled beets, which she liked. I 
always referred to them as "icky beets." So after a while, she 
started asking at the restaurant for icky beets.
