When I asked whether the plate was to be used in the baking or not, she said
the catalogue picture showed the plate with a loaf of bread in it, obviously
baked in the plate as it reflected the shape. The decorative picture in the
middle of the plate shows the rounded loaves that Adamantius describes, ah,
but now that I look at it, one of the loaves looks like a mushroom, straight
sides and a domed top, perhaps as it would be if baked in this plate. The
"Irish Blessing" that goes around the picture says "May The Warmth Of An
Irish Hearth Surround You."
The back of the plate says "Handpainted, Microwave, Dishwasher, and Oven
Safe".

Here is the recipe from the card that came with it:

Celtic Blessings
Irish Soda Bread Recipe

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup whole wheat flour
1 tsp baking soda
1/4 cup currants
1 1/4 to 1 1/2 cups buttermilk
1 tbsp. butter, melted
1/2 tsp salt

Combine flours, baking soda and salt in large mixing bowl. Stir in
currants. Add 1 1/4 cups buttermilk; stir just till dry ingredients are
moistened. (Add more buttermilk, if needed to make a soft dough.) Turn
dough onto lightly floured surface. Knead gently 1 minute. Shape into a
ball. Place in greased baking dish. Pat into 8-inch circle. With shapr
knife or razor blade, cut 1/2-inch deep "v" in top of dough.
Bake in preheated 375° oven until golden, 30-35 minutes. Transfer to wire
rack and brush with melted butter. Serve hot or at room temperature.
Makes 1 loaf.

Hmm, birthday bread?
