Why yes, he can sew and read aloud at the same time, and he could probably 
do it on a treadle too.
And yes, you can sew fruit leather, but you can also stick it together with 
just the stickyness of itself.  Chirhart and I made a pair of period style 
shoes out of fruitleather for an outgoing Baron a few years back.  Gave him 
his walking shoes, we did.
