I consulted with the feastcrat on this announcement last month, she was most
anxious that the diners would be willing to go along with something unusual.
I wish I could be there, it sounds like a great time.

The feastcrat for Magna Faire asked that I forward this to the group. It all
sounds wonderful. Marsali

"A 14th Century Indulgence - Magna Faire Feast 2004

This feast is being conducted in the Great French Banquet style
traditions of the 14th Century. The atmosphere, eating, and entertainment
will be
as close to an exact replication of one of these great feasts as possible.
Because Great French Banquets are governed by the strictest protocol, this
feast will be delivered in an entirely different manner than any other feast
you
have experienced.
Come prepared to sit for 2 and a half hours - for this is not just a
restaurant style feast where you eat and leave - there will be timed
entertainment as well as a great selection of foods.
The tables will be set up prior to the entering of the populace for the
feast - therefore the only thing you need to bring is your goblet and a
spoon and knife. Forks will not be necessary. Morsels of food were usually
eaten
with the 3 main fingers of the hand. No forks were used except in the late
14th
century Italy for pastas only.
Because these banquets were governed by both moral considerations as
well as
material restraints - only the greatest of guests at a feast had their own
place settings. Therefore - to make the atmosphere even more accurate -
the trenchers will be shared between two people - so make sure you bring a
friend. (If for health or other considerations, you do not prefer to share
a
trencher, please let the hall steward know, and a single trencher will
be provided.) There will be a sign up chart for the feast at Troll as
well as hanging on the wall after Troll is closed - to insure that ALL know
where they
will be sitting.
I hope you will come and enjoy this Great French Banquet as much as I
have preparing the banquet.

In service to the Kingdom and the Crown,
Lady Katlin Laurana Seval"
