sauerkraut.  didn't make it this year and i missed it. 
  DH does not like the stuff, tbo he will eat mine twice a 
year.

my mother used to cook spare ribs in it, and drop 
dumplings on the top.

i have since added some chopped apple, chopped onion and a 
tad of white wine to the mix.  throw it all in a crock pot 
and put the spareribs or porkchop on top.

mmmmmmmmmmmmm... pork roast, sauerkraut with dumplings, 
mashed potatoes and applesause.   sunday dinner in winter 
when i was a kid.
