When they refer to hunter/gatherers, they refer to the people as a whole.  
If they farmed, it would be an Agrarian society, and if they engaged in 
animal husbandry and kept flocks, they were Pastoral.  In the Britons
they typically did all three, depending on what was available in the area
and traded for what they needed.  They figure the grooved ware people
had herds or they wouldn't have been able to support the projects they
did or have the time to do them.
